Just Born FAQ

Just Born sessions last around 2 hours. Just Born sessions are scheduled between the hours of 9am to 7pm and include the precious interactions between you, your partner, and your family.

Just Born sessions are a great alternative to birth photography plus, you get to rest and clean up a little before the session. Sessions are casual, unposed, with a fly on the wall approach.

Just Born sessions take place anytime within 2-3 days of baby’s birth. Sessions may occur at your hospital immediately after birth or once you’ve been moved to recovery. Sessions may also occur in your home or birth center. Remember, babies change so much those first few days so keep that in mind when deciding the time of your session.

Just Born sessions are very casual. Wear what you feel most comfortable in. It’s totally up to you. We recommend something that is easy to pull down or open up (robes) as baby will likely nurse at some point in the session. We recommend avoiding logos as they can detract from the moment being photographed. Solid colours and patterns lend a cleaner and more timeless look to your images. Neutrals tend to work best and blend nicely with any environment.

We recommend booking your session in advance, the sooner the better. Sessions may also be booked after baby is born, if we have availability. Let us know right away when your baby is born and we will secure the exact time of your session.

Your images will be ready within 3 weeks from the session date. We’ll notify you when your images are ready. Once ready, you’ll be able to download all of your images, share them with friends and family if you wish, or keep them exclusively for yourself.

Please ask and ensure photographers are allowed. In almost all cases they are treated as just visitors so it’s generally okay.

We require that you (or an alternate contact person) contact us after you go into labour/are admitted to the hospital and also once the baby arrives so that we can ensure availability for the suggested time frame.

This is handled on a case-by-case basis. We will stay in touch and find out from the hospital staff what we are and aren’t allowed to do. We have been able to do a NICU session in the past, but depending on the situation, this is not always allowed. In the event that we are unable to photograph your “just born” session as planned, your deposit will be applied to a future session, such as a newborn session once you are home.

Yes, please! They are perfect compliments to each other. One is no substitute to the other.

In order to keep your Just Born experience as calm, relaxed, and orderly as possible, we prefer to focus on the baby and parent(s). While we are open to including other family members (such as siblings, grandparents, aunts, and uncles) as well, doing so can create a more chaotic environment and impact your experience and the quality of your final images – so please give careful consideration as to who you want to be included in your session.

We will ask anyone not being photographed at the moment to relax outside of the room until it’s their turn to be photographed. This helps keep things safe and calm and to reduce distractions throughout the time that we are there.

Finally, we will ask that family members taking their own photos do so before or after your session. We request that no other photography take place during the short time we are there, so as to reduce the likelihood of distracting noises and similar things which can negatively impact the quality of you and your baby’s interaction and the quality of your final images.
